Mêl Cilgwenyn

Mêl Cilgwenyn

Mêl Cilgwenyn (literally honey from the retreat of the bees), came about when founders Richard and Rhodri decided to start commercially bee farming in 2010 after years of keeping bees as a hobby.

For Richard, his fascination with bees began at the age of 7, when he was captivated by a beekeeper’s stand at a local fair. Rhodri’s interest came later in 2008, but what he may have lacked in beekeeping experience during those earlier years, he more than made up for in his capacity as a research analyst, quickly getting to grips with the science and testing behind honey regulations, ensuring the quality of their produce and driving Mêl Cilgwenyn’s carbon neutrality.

Today they are the only bee farm in Wales to win 5 successive Great Taste Awards, which is hardly a surprise considering the provenance of their honeys, with hives situated in the Brecon Beacons, on the Gower Peninsula and all over Carmarthenshire and beyond.
